Veteran TV Reporter Announces Departure From CT Station

The popular reporter has been with the station for 22 years.

Tina Detelj, who has been with WTNH-TV for 22 years, announced that she is leaving the station at the end of the week.

She did not say where she is headed, but thanked viewers and coworkers, and told them that she has a "brand new adventure" waiting in the wings.

"As I enter into my final week here at WTNH News 8 I just want to thank the so many people who allowed me to tell their stories," Detelj wrote on Facebook. "Hopefully the sad ones were done with care and the happy ones with creativity."

The Laurel, which was first to report the news, called Detelj "a solid and consistent reporter and reliable member of the WTNH news team."

Detelj was based out of a bureau in New London, where she did most of her reporting, and before joining New Haven-based News 8, she worked at New England Cable News (NECN), and as a reporter/anchor at WPXT-TV in Portland, Maine.

She is a UConn graduate, and also served as an anchor/reporter at WNNE-TV in Vermont, and News Director/Anchor for Metro News in Brockton, Massachusetts, according to her bio.

"I’ve been fortunate to work with such a great team of people at News8 who are professional, passionate, and kind!" Detelj wrote. "I have also met so many wonderful people in the community who I might not have met otherwise. It has all been a gift I cherish!"

As she prepares to sign off from the station, Detelj said that she is looking forward to spending more time with her family, and that one thing that her position allowed her to do was spend time with a loved one who developed Alzheimer's.

"One thing that means the world to me is that this job allowed me to be a presence in the life of the best person I know who would develop Alzheimer’s," Detelj wrote. "She was able to see my ‘familiar face’ in her living room on most days - on TV and in person. Nothing better than that."
