Worker Suffers ‘Grievous’ Injury, Emergency Crews Recognized For Life-Saving Efforts: Watertown PD
"The swift and decisive actions of the police officers were critical in saving the worker's life," officials said in a statement.
WATERTOWN, CT — A worker was hospitalized after being severely injured when their arm got caught in a machine at a business in Watertown on Wednesday morning, according to police.
Watertown police responded around 10:15 a.m. to a 911 call reporting a serious medical emergency at a business on Grove Street.
The caller, who police said was “highly distraught,” reported that a worker’s arm had become caught in a machine, resulting in a severe injury.

“Dispatcher Scully expertly calmed the caller, gathered critical details, and provided life-saving first aid instructions over the phone, including the application of a tourniquet,” police wrote in a news release. Dispatcher Foley immediately dispatched Watertown Fire and EMS units.
“Sgt. Grady-Duguay was first to arrive on scene, confirming the worker had sustained a grievous arm injury. Officer Shatkin quickly arrived and applied a tourniquet she carries as part of her duty gear, stabilizing the worker until fire and EMS personnel arrived to take over care. Officers Grizey and Hill assisted on scene.
