📰 News we're reading

1. Ansonia DTC chair charged with operating under the influence, police say (nhregister.com) — An Ansonia Democratic Town Committee leader has been charged after police say he rear-ended another vehicle on Bridge Street and was found with a blood alcohol level about twice the legal limit. No serious injuries were reported, and he’s due in Derby Superior Court later this month. Residents may watch for any official response from local party leadership.

2. Ansonia Neighbors Question Age-Restricted Housing Proposal (newhavenindependent.org) — Neighbors on Ansonia’s hilltop are pushing back against a proposal to turn the long-vacant Hilltop Health Center on Ford Street into 91 age-restricted studio apartments, citing traffic, density, and neighborhood character. At a packed public hearing at Ansonia High School, residents urged the planning and zoning commission to scale back the project, while the developer’s attorney warned that reducing units could kill the deal.

3. Nine dogs graduate from Connecticut K9 training program (wtnh.com) — Ansonia residents can now expect to see K9 Rip working alongside Officer Brandon Fowler after the pair completed a demanding 12-week state police dog training program. They’re among new K9 teams from departments across Connecticut, trained in skills ranging from patrol work to detecting explosives, firearms, narcotics, and tracking people in real-world scenarios.

4. High school football state championship game moved from Coast Guard Academy (courant.com) — Connecticut’s high school football championships are being reshuffled after access concerns forced the CIAC to move Saturday’s Class SS title game from the Coast Guard Academy to New Britain. For Ansonia fans, the key note is that the Chargers’ season ended in the Class S semifinals, where they fell 21-0 to Northwest Catholic, which now advances to face Sheehan.
