Berlin Hiking Area Benefits From State Funds

BERLIN, CT — A recently announced state grant will eventually allow for improved access to a well-used local hiking/passive recreation destination in town.
The Town of Berlin has been awarded a $61,750 grant for the purposes of adding a parking area to the 15.74-acre property at 0 Chamberlain Highway and connecting the property with the nearby Metacomet Trail.

This acquisition expands the Blue Hills Conservation Area with additional scenic traprock ridgeline along the Metacomet Trail, which is part of a larger open space corridor from the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s Hatchery Brook Conservation Area to the north, through Berlin, and into Meriden.

Berlin was one of 22 towns and cities in Connecticut that were awarded a total of $14.3 million in state funding to aid in the purchase and protection of more than 2,270 acres of open space through 25 properties across Connecticut.
