Berlin PD Increases Patrol In High Crime Areas

The police department has added new patrols to help apprehend suspects in areas of high crime.

From Berlin Police Department: In an effort to combat the plague of car breaks and thefts in town, the Berlin Police Department is increasing patrols directed at apprehending the persons responsible for these crimes. We have reviewed our data on car breaks and added additional patrols and unmarked units during the days and times when these have been identified as most prevalent.

The goal is to locate, identify, and arrest persons committing larcenies from motor vehicles. Assigned officers are discreetly positioning themselves in separate target neighborhoods in order conduct surveillance. Assigned officers are attempting to identify all suspicious persons and vehicles. This will be accomplished by the assigned officers, in conjunction with the district officers and a combination of both.

During the past two years the department has arrested at least 7 individuals, the majority of who were juveniles under the age of 18 for these offenses. Officers have also attempted to stop no less than five vehicles suspected of being involved in these larcenies. Each of these vehicles fled when the Officer attempted to stop them. They were not pursued due to the risk to the public.
