Glastonbury staged a five-run rally in the seventh inning, overcoming a Berlin lead, on the way to an 8-7 victory Monday at Zipadelli Field, Sage Park.

The young season’s best weather day was enjoyed by Berlin spectators and players alike as the Redcoats entered the seventh leading 7-3, behind strong hitting and a smooth pitching performance by Connor Bennett.

The Redcoats banged out eleven hits to build a 7-0 lead. Mitch Williams had three safeties and two RBIs, while Dante Vasi added two hits and an RBI. Dave Condon’s fourth inning double, which eluded a diving outfielder, plated two run was an offensive highlight, while Alec Norton contributed two diving defensive plays at second base.

Bennett took a two-hit shutout into the 6th inning, but the Tomahawks broke through with three runs, two on Jack Halpin’s double. Glastonbury’s big seventh inning against Bennett and reliever Jared Gallagher featured another Halpin double to score two, a walk, a hit batter, and a slow roller to third for a hit.

The tying and go-ahead runs scored on Kyle Maglio’s fly ball which was misjudged by Berlin centerfielder Daren Grabowski. The Redcoats, who fell to 3-2 on the year, will face Bristol Central on Wednesday and Stafford High, Saturday at 1 p.m., at Sage Park.
