WATCH: Berlin HS' 'Hardware City Miracle' Earns Incredible Football Title
The Berlin High School Redcoats defeated Brookfield High School 20-15 Saturday night to win the CIAC Class M State Football Championship.

NEW BRITAIN/BERLIN, CT — The Tennessee Titans will always have the "Music City Miracle," that miraculous kickoff return against the Buffalo Bills in the 2000 playoffs that sent them to an eventual Super Bowl win.
Well, 25 years later, the Berlin High School Redcoats said, "Hold my non-alcoholic beer."

That's because senior wide receiver/defensive back Eli Rice refused to let his high school football career end in defeat.
With seconds on the clock, Brookfield gambled and, seemingly, won as they went for two points with less than a minute to go after Brookfield's Thad Balzi punched it in from the 1-yard line.

Then, Brookfield's Tyler Buttendorf ran in a two-point conversion, giving Brookfield its first lead of the game, 15-14.
There was one problem, however: there were still 48 ticks of the clock left.
With the ensuing kickoff heading out of bounds, the Redcoats were looking at possessing the ball in decent field position with no time lost.
But Rice had other ideas.
Grabbing the tumbling pigskin, he quickly eluded several Brookfield tacklers, then cut left and, with his speed doing the talking, he sprinted downfield into the end zone and championship delerium at Arute Field on the Central Connecticut State University campus in New Britain.
For Berlin, a loss would have been devastating as the Redcoats were barely challenged all year long during a dominant campaign.
After Rice's dash to the end zone, however, that isn't an issue.
The tough part now, however, is whether any BHS football players, cheerleaders, or staff will be able to come back down to Earth, so to speak, and continue with their school year.
For them, it's a nice problem to have.
