"I learned of the incident over the weekend," said Smith. "We met with her first thing this morning and placed her on administrative leave. We're conducting an investigation right now."

Smith said the investigation is ongoing, but said he is planning to make sure Bethel High School's athletics are not affected.

"Our goal is to make it not impact the spring sports season at all," he said. "So we're working to make the adjustments we need to make."

In New Milford, Pliego was also placed on administrative leave, according to the Connecticut Post. New Milford Superintendent JeanAnn Paddyfote told the Post, "I take this very seriously ... I take all matters dealing with our personnel very seriously."
