BETHEL, CT — The Highway Department began work Thursday to repair a road that became forbidden to school bus traffic last winter.

A chronic drainage problem coupled with a quick, deep freeze in January made a portion of Taylor Avenue too treacherous for school buses to navigate.

The Highway Department sent a letter to residents notifying them that the section of road between 48 and 54 Taylor Avenue will be shut down from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday for the work. The letter advised that alternate bus stop locations will be made available at the intersection of Taylor Avenue and Nashville Road, as well as Taylor Avenue and South Street.
