Bethel Driver Seen Driving Into Oncoming Traffic: Police

The man was charged with evading responsibility and driving under the influence.

DANBURY, CT — A Bethel man was arrested after he was seen driving into oncoming traffic towards a police officer on Nov. 9, according to Danbury Police. Frank Jerome Sweeney, 62, was stopped by a Danbury officer after he allegedly drove into the officer's oncoming lane.

Police said the man had fresh damage on the left side of his vehicle, and smelled alcohol on his breath. He also failed field sobriety tests, according to police.

While investigating, another driver stopped at the traffic stop and said Sweeney had struck his vehicle and did not stop.

Sweeney was charged with evading responsibility, DUI, failure to drive right and failure to obey a traffic signal. He was held on a $500 bond.
