Bethel Firefighters Tackle Strip Mall Blaze

Bethel and Stony Hill Fire Departments extinguished a blaze in a commercial strip mall off Greenwood Avenue.

BETHEL, CT — Bethel and Stony Hill Fire Departments extinguished a blaze in a commercial strip mall off Greenwood Avenue on Sunday.

The firefighters received initial reports of smoke and fire visible from the roof of the building at approximately 10:30 a.m.

First responders confirmed a structure fire and requested a second alarm to start additional mutual aid resources from other towns.

Bethel Police assisted in closing Greenwood Avenue to allow for firefighters to access fire hydrants across the street. One occupant was evaluated by EMS, but ultimately refused treatment, according to a report from Bethel Fire & EMS on Facebook.

There were no other civilian or first responder injuries. The fire resulted in severe fire, smoke and water damage to several of the businesses, Stony Hill firefighters reported.

The fire remains under investigation by the Bethel Fire Marshal's Office
