Bethel Hopes To Woo New Development Through Zoning Changes: Report
Town officials are hoping to attract new business and development downtown, and say new zoning changes will help that happen.

BETHEL, CT — A new initiative hopes to bring new businesses and development downtown, and local officials are reviewing zoning changes that may help attract new development, reports the News Times. The town is reviewing a draft of new zoning regulations aimed at the whole downtown and revitalizing the area near the train station.

The publication reports the new changes would help simplify zoning laws for developers. Bethel Town Planner Beth Cavagna said that developers can spend six months to two years trying to gain approval for projects, but that would be trimmed to two to three months.

Cavagna also said business are waiting to submit applications until the changes go through. Town officials say the goal of the changes is to make Bethel a pedestrian-friendly community.
