BETHEL, CT — Bethel police found themselves on a different kind of call Tuesday morning — one that involved a lot more fur and squeaking than usual.

A concerned resident reported the sounds of an animal crying in the woods, prompting officers to investigate. What they found was a baby raccoon who had gotten itself firmly wedged into the crack of a tree, clearly regretting a bold decision to explore tight spaces.

Animal Control Officer Shanley teamed up with Officers Ammon, Eaton, and DeOliveira to orchestrate a delicate raccoon rescue. The young critter, sounding off with squeaks that rivaled a sugar-fueled toddler, was carefully freed and returned safely to a nearby tree hollow — unharmed, though possibly a little embarrassed.
