Bethel Resident ID’d As Waterbury Reservoir Drowning Victim: PD
The man drowned in the East Mountain Reservoir last weekend, according to police.
WATERBURY, CT — Police have identified the 30-year-old man who drowned in the East Mountain Reservoir last weekend as a Bethel resident.
Officer Nyjah Porcher said Friday the victim was 30-year-old Juan Cepeda-Chicaiza.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said Friday the death has been ruled an accidental drowning.

Police responded to the reservoir around 4:22 p.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of a swimmer going under the water and not resurfacing.
Waterbury fire and emergency medical personnel, and the Region 5 Dive Team also responded to the reservoir, at 99 East Mountain Rd., to help with the search and rescue efforts.

Cepeda-Chicaiza was recovered from the water, and emergency personnel rushed him to an area hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, police said.
