Bethel Resident to Receive Award for Public Service
Mary O'Leary will receive the Shannon Award for Public Service at the annual Bethel Democratic Town Committee dinner.

On April 9, 2016, the Bethel Democratic Town Committee will present Mary O’Leary with the Shannon Award for Public Service at its annual dinner.
Mary O’Leary is a life-long resident in Bethel. Mary and her husband, Tom O’Leary, were married at St. Mary’s Church in 1962, where Mary continues to be involved. Though her proudest accomplishment is her family, which includes four children, their spouses and four grandchildren, Mary has been actively involved in serving the Bethel community through her involvement in many organizations, including, Ability Beyond, the Bethel Chapter of Hospice Breakfast Committee, the Northwest Regional Mental Health Board, the Bethel Library Board of Directors, the Connecticut Association of Library Boards, the Friends of the Bethel Public Library, and the Commission on Aging. Mary also held the elected position of Democratic Registrar of Voters for 21 years.

The Shannon Award for Public Service, honors Bill and Jane Shannon, and is presented annually to a Bethel resident who has contributed to the growth and improvement of the Town of Bethel through involvement in various civic and public activities and committees. Mary’s life-long commitment to the Town of Bethel makes her a most deserving recipient.
