Bethel School Renovations Voting Results Are In: Report
Residents voted on the fate of a $65.8 million proposal to renovate the Johnson and Rockwell schools Tuesday.

BETHEL, CT — By a narrow margin, voters approved the $65.8 million for renovations to the Rockwell and Johnson elementary schools, reports the News Times. Residents making up 22 percent of Bethel's registered voters turned out to pass the funding by a 1,477 to 1,265 vote.
The project could add $269 per year to the average home, and the project is eligible for a state grant that would cover 45 percent of the project. Town officials are waiting for the status of the grant.
The town would have to pay $29 million to bring the schools up to code, whether or not the referendum passed.
