Bethel Seeks Close to $1 Million in State Grants
The state grants would help fund the recently-approved police station plan and phase 2 of a downtown streetscape project.

Bethel officials are seeking state grants to fund plans for a recently approved police station and a downtown streetscape project.
Officials submitted two applications two weeks ago with the Small Town Economic Assistance Program, according to NewsTimes.
One application seeks $500,000 in funding for the police station voters approved last month, which is expected to cost $13.5 million and the second is for $483,000 in grants for the town’s streetscape program, NewsTimes reported.

The Small Town Economic Assistance Program is managed by the Office of Policy and Management and funds economic development, community conservation and quality-of-life capital projects for localities that are ineligible to receive Urban Action bonds, according to the program website.
The last time Bethel received a STEAP grant was in 2014, when the program awarded the town $430,000 for sidewalk improvements, NewsTimes reported.
