Bethel Small Business Spotlight: Molten Java

Our small business series shines a light on Bethel business owners. This week we're featuring a local coffee shop and eatery.

BETHEL, CT — Every local business has a story worth sharing with the community. And that’s the belief behind this exciting series — to shine the spotlight on all our favorite local businesses, and to learn a little about the ones we may not know that well.

How did you come up with the name?

I came up with about 10 potential names and chose Molten Java because it's cute and catchy. Other choices included Wired, Cuppa and Barnum Brew.

Why start a business in this town?

Bethel is so lucky to have an actual walking downtown and a close knit community. Those are the reasons I live here and, inevitably, opened a business here. I couldn't have found a more loyal and involved community anywhere else.

Briefly, what business are you in?

All things coffee, food and the arts!

What’s the most difficult moment or challenge you’ve faced as a business owner?

It was almost impossible to survive the last recession. The only reason I survived was my love for the business and family and community support.

What’s been your favorite moment or proudest achievement since opening?

Opening in the "new" location was amazing. I had a chance to design and build the space and be in a gorgeous, historic, building in town.

How does your business give back or get involved in the community?

Community involvement is built right in to the mission of Molten. We are dedicated to giving local visual and performing artists a venue as well as providing meeting space for local groups. We hope to have even more events this year to keep downtown thriving and fun. Also,Like all of the local businesses, Molten donates to hundreds of local causes. I think that's an important responsibility for businesses.
