Candidate Brad Koltz Endorsed By The Fraternal Order of Police

Brad Koltz, candidate for 2nd District State Representative has been endorsed by the Fraternal Order of Police

Brad Koltz, is a candidate for State Representative in the 2nd District, serving parts of Bethel and Danbury and has been endorsed by the Connecticut Fraternal Order of Police.

In a statement, Mr. Koltz said "I have been proudly endorsed by the Connecticut Fraternal Order of Police because they know I support our police and restoring their ability to safely keep all of us safe.

My opponent says he supports public safety but sponsored the "police accountability bill" that has handcuffed state and local police and makes it much harder for them to safely keep us safe.

I support changing that so our police can do their job.

Here are some specific issues with the so-called Police Accountability Bill:

Police have to pay their own legal fees if they are sued, whether a frivolous harassment suit or a valid one. That makes police carefully consider if they will pursue suspects and puts them at risk for being ruined for doing their job.

Police can be decertified by a faceless state board for "undermining public confidence in law enforcement."

Police can no longer do traffic stops for less than a "primary" violation and are severely limited in the kinds of searches they can perform.

Police are severely limited in the kinds of and extent of pursuits they can participate in.

These and other limitations have resulted in experienced officers retiring and make it much more difficult to recruit new officers. One retired police sergeant described this as essentially defunding the police as departments are now forced to spend much more time and money on new and expanded reports, etc. and less on police officers in the field.

Meanwhile, overall crime, which had been dropping steadily for 3 decades, dropping 69% from 1989 to 2019, reversed direction after this bill went into effect and 2022 saw overall crime increase 1.7% higher than the year before the so-called Police Accountability Bill went into effect. A 3 decade success story was destroyed by this one misguided bill. Source: The Federal Bureau of Investigation Crime Data

It is time to end this poorly conceived social experiment and re-empower our police to do their jobs safely and more effectively to keep all of us safe.
