Construction Begins On Bethel’s Parloa Park Revitalization Project

Bethel begins long-awaited revitalization of Parloa Park, adding new play equipment, modern design and ADA-compliant access.

BETHEL, CT — Work is officially underway on the long-anticipated revitalization of Parloa Park, a project led by Bethel’s Parks and Recreation Department with support from state bonding funds.

The initiative, years in the making, will bring new play equipment, an updated layout and ADA-compliant access from Blackman Avenue. Officials said the improvements are aimed at creating a more accessible and inclusive space for families.

State Rep. Raghib Allie-Brennan helped secure the state funding. He said the project was not easy to advance, given bonding priorities that typically focus on economic development.

"This wasn’t an easy win," Allie-Brennan said. "The Governor tends to prioritize economic development when it comes to bonding, so projects like this don’t always make the cut. But I fought hard with the help of Speaker Ritter and Bonding Chair Ron Napoli to make sure Bethel wasn’t overlooked."

Parks and Recreation Director Rachael McGrath and her team developed the plan and will oversee its implementation.

“This project belongs to the Parks Department,” Allie-Brennan said.

The park, located off Blackman Avenue, has not seen major investment in decades, officials said. Construction is expected to provide a modernized gathering space for one of Bethel’s most-used public areas.
