Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) is pleased to announce the appointment of Adam Carley as its new Executive Director, effective January 2025. Adam brings a wealth of leadership experience, community dedication, and a deep passion for animal welfare to DAWS as the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary and embarks on an exciting new chapter of growth and innovation.

Adam joins DAWS following twelve years of nonprofit executive leadership at REACH Western Connecticut, where he fostered impactful programs and meaningful community partnerships. His leadership philosophy centers on collaboration, consistent communication, and a shared vision to create lasting change. With a career dedicated to serving children, families, and individuals in need, Adam’s experience and strategic insight will be instrumental as DAWS continues its mission to rescue, care for, and rehome animals in the community.
In addition to his impressive professional accomplishments, Adam holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master of Science in Science Education, and a Sixth Year Degree in Education Administration. He has also been recognized for his work with adults with special needs, showcasing his lifelong commitment to inclusivity and advocacy.

“I’m honored to join DAWS and to build on its incredible legacy of compassion and service,” said Adam. “Animal welfare has a unique power to bring people together, strengthen communities, and positively impact lives. I look forward to partnering with the dedicated team at DAWS, the volunteers, supporters, and the community to further the organization’s mission and expand its reach.”
Adam resides in Trumbull, Connecticut, with his wife, Lindsey; their three children; and their beloved two dogs and cat. Outside of his professional work, Adam is an accomplished musician, coach, and active community leader who values the importance of strong connections between families, schools, and the community to drive meaningful change.
The Board of Directors at DAWS is excited for Adam to bring his vision, expertise, and commitment to service to the organization. “Adam’s passion for community impact, paired with his leadership experience, will be invaluable as we grow our programs and enhance the lives of animals and families throughout our region,” said Karen Iannella, President of the Board of Directors at DAWS.
As DAWS looks to the future, the organization remains committed to its mission of providing compassionate care and finding loving homes for animals in need.
