This past Saturday, September 28th, the Danbury Animal Welfare Society (DAWS) celebrated its 50th Anniversary Gala, raising over $150,000 in support of shelter animals and the organization’s mission. The night was filled with joy, celebration, and heartwarming stories of generosity—none more touching than an extraordinary act of kindness from one of DAWS’ biggest supporters, Glenn Farrell, Co-Owner of Lawn Doctor of Fairfield and Westchester County, MetroWest Massachusetts.

Glenn, who lives in Bethel, CT, bid on a luxury cruise generously donated by Fernleaf Travel, located in Redding CT and Celebrity Cruises. The package raised $3,000 for DAWS, but the story took an unexpected and emotional turn when Glenn surprised Katie Mothersele, DAWS’ Director of Operations, by gifting her the cruise. Katie’s husband is currently battling testicular cancer, and Glenn’s gesture didn’t stop there—he also offered to pay for her airfare, ensuring Katie and her husband can enjoy the trip with minimal stress.
This remarkable display of generosity left the room in awe and underscored the deep sense of community that defines DAWS and its supporters. Glenn has been one of DAWS’ most loyal and dedicated contributors, and this selfless act only further solidifies his commitment to both the organization and the people behind its mission.
