The Tandem Theatre at WorkspaceCT in Bethel, CT will be ringing in the New Year by showcasing talented local teens from high schools in Brookfield, Danbury, New Milford, Newtown and Bethel as they perform in Heathers: The Musical Teen Edition on January 6th and 7th.

The musical, with book, music and lyrics by Kevin Murphy and Laurence O’Keefe, is based on the 1989 iconic cult classic film by Daniel Waters. It is the darkly delicious story of Veronica Sawyer, a brainy, beautiful teenage misfit who hustles her way into the most powerful and ruthless clique at Westerberg High: the Heathers. But before she can get comfortable atop the high school food chain, Veronica falls in love with the dangerously handsome new kid J.D.

The original version of the Heather's musical opened in 2010 and resonated deeply with high schoolers prompting requests for performance rights from students, teachers and faculties across the country. These requests encouraged the creators to find new ways to tell the story in a PG-13 context. After its high school premiere, Heathers: The Musical (High School Edition) was met with huge enthusiasm from teachers and students alike. Reviews across the country showed that the characters, songs and story resonate deeply with teens.

Director, Leland Williams, and the teen cast invite you attend one of their three performances and use the show as a springboard for important, open discussions about matters that affect the lives of teens. It is a dark comedy and exists to combat its own subject matter.
