You may have seen the recent article in the News Times regarding the need for a turf field for theathletes of Bethel. This project or initiative is community supported by the Bethel Public Schools, Parks and Recreation Department and the Youth Sports organizations within Bethel. As we are the only community in the Southwest Conference of the CIAC, who does not have access to turf, our athletes are at a competitive disadvantage, unable to host state level games and have no access to the stadium field except for games. Although we have the need for more than one turf field (given community based and athletic programs), our current focus is on DeSantis Field.

We are seeking approval from the Board of Selectman and Board of Finance for a detailed architectural and engineering study to determine the exact costs associated with turf installation in DeSantis Field (stadium), including long-term maintenance. Once we have the exact estimates, we will include the turf field as a capital project within our budget presentation. At this point, we are looking to install an organic turf product, Geofill (as is used in Wilton and Monroe), given concerns about the effects of crumb rubber on health. I would like to commend our Director of Athletics, Mr. Caron and our Student Athletes, Sophia Orrico, Luke Newman and Eric Fehr of the Marching Band for giving an outstanding presentation.
