Obituary: James J. Amick, 90, Of Bethel
Mr. Amick was the recipient of the Navy Occupation Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Medal.

BETHEL, CT — James J. Amick, 90, of Bethel, husband of Elaine (Posca) Amick, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family at Regional Hospice Center for Comfort Care and Healing, Danbury.
Affectionately known as “Chip” or “Papa”, Mr. Amick was born in Beacon, NY on June 20, 1933, a son of the late James D. and Adeline (Charlante) Amick. He attended New York schools.
In 1953, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the U.S. Destroyer Ship Shenandoah. He attended the Class “A” Yeoman School and the Naval Justice School. He was honorably discharged in 1957 with the rank of Yeoman 1st Class.

He received the Navy Occupation Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the National Defense Medal.
Employed with IBM., Mr. Amick later became a success in sales for Pitney-Bowes. He then established his own flourishing business for twenty-five years until his retirement.

At an early age, as a hobby, he became an accomplished drummer and a lover of smooth jazz. He loved the game of golf and had the opportunity of playing courses in many states, Bermuda, Canada and Mexico and was very proud of his “hole in one.”
His love we will treasure and will be with us forever. He will be sorely missed.
In addition to his wife Elaine of fifty-nine years, he is survived by his loving son Christopher (Lori) Amick and loving daughter Laurie Hallas, cherished grandchildren, Trevor, Justin and Amanda Hallas, Ryan and Alexandra Amick.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Amick was predeceased by a son in law, Donald Hallas and by his two brothers, Louis and Augustine.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 24, 2024, at 11 a.m. in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, 138 Candlewood Lake Rd., Brookfield.
Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends in the Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home, 9 Granville Ave., Danbury on Friday, February 23, 2024, from 4 to 7 p.m.
