Obituary: Joyce A. (Sullivan) Hynes, Of Bethel And Danbury

What started for Joyce as a part-time job in the Billing Department of Danbury Hospital turned into a 38-year career.

BETHEL. CT — Joyce A. (Sullivan) Hynes of Danbury (formerly of Bethel) passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at Danbury Hospital with her two daughters, Kathleen and Kelly, by her side.

Joyce was born in Yonkers, NY. on January 5, 1932, a daughter of the late Joseph Sullivan and Helen Sullivan. Her childhood was spent in Mount Vernon, N.Y. Joyce graduated from Ann B. Davis High School in Mount Vernon, NY.

Shortly after making Bethel her new home in 1960, Joyce began her career at Danbury Hospital. What started out as a part-time job in the Billing Department turned into a 38-year career. Joyce loved her job. In light of her kindness, generosity and good will towards her co-workers, she kept up her valued relationships long after her retirement. Her kindness showed no limits.

Joyce’s passing is a great loss to her family and caring friends. She was a loving, kind-hearted mother who always made sure her children came first. She was her family's angel on Earth.

Throughout the years, Joyce enjoyed tennis, Scrabble, solving crossword puzzles, dining out with friends, sitting in the sun, going on trips to the casinos and playing cards with friends at the Palace View Senior Housing, where she was dubbed "Queen of the Card Game."

Joyce is survived by daughter, Kathleen A. Hand of Portland, ME; daughter, Kelly A. Martin and her husband, Robert, of Bethel; her daughter-in-law, Marlane Hynes and grandson, Kevin Hynes, Jr., both of Branford. Joyce is also survived by two great-grandchildren: Olivia and Parker. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Anne Sullivan of Las Vegas, NV, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Joyce was predeceased by brothers Joseph and Henry Sullivan; and her beloved son, Kevin.
Joyce’s presence in her family’s lives will be forever missed. She will always be remembered for her wonderful good nature with her glorious smile she gave to all.

Friends will be received from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 9, at Green Funeral Home, 57 Main Street, Danbury, followed by a prayer service at 3:00. A private burial will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bethel, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Joyce’s memory may be made to the Danbury Lions Club (checks payable to Danbury Lions Charities) and sent to P.O. Box 461, Danbury, CT 06813 or to the charity of one’s choice.

The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Havencare at Filosa for their endless compassion and respect in the care of Joyce’s challenging needs during her later years.
