Police: Bethel Man Tried to Steal More Than $500 from Big Y

Police say a Bethel man tried to steal more than $500 from Big Y in Stony Hill, but was allegedly caught in the act by store security.

Shawn Gartland, 37, of Plumtrees Rd. was arrested at 4:25 p.m. Wednesday after being apprehended for allegedly trying to make off with $502.53 in merchandise and groceries. He was charged with Larceny in the Fifth Degree.

Gartland was later released on an unspecified bond and is due to appear in court March 22, according to the release from the Bethel Police Department.
