Snapchat Blackmail Schemer Targeted Bethel Girl, Police Say: Report
The accused allegedly targeted around 300 girls in a widespread scheme involving blackmail and nude photographs.
BETHEL, CT —A teenage girl from Bethel was victimized in a Snapchat hack that affected around 300 teenage girls, reports the News Times. Barton Scott, 34, allegedly posed as one of the girl's friends to hack into her account and found private nude photos.

Scott, of New Richmond, WI, then threatened to release the photos if she did not send him more explicit photos. He was convicted of sending pictures of his genitals to underage girls in 2015.

Bethel Police were permitted to participate in the investigation by the girl's mother. Authorities said Scott admitted to contacting the Bethel girl in an interview, but did not know she was under 18.
