Video: Circus Bakery owner Sandra Diniz explains what makes her bakery great.

Sandra Diniz moved to the U.S. from Brazil in 2001, but she kept all the memories of her childhood -- her mother ran a restaurant/cafe in Goias, a state in central Brazil.

"I did the baking in the morning, then helped her -- she was really good," says Sandra. Her move to Connecticut didn't shake her love of baking. She worked out of home, making cakes for her friends.

"My friends, and the Brazilian community, and all the people I know," she says, were her original customers. "Everything started with one cake I gave as a birthday present, and everybody liked it ... One thing led to another, and everything goes like that!"

Circus Bakery opened their doors Saturday with a grand opening celebration, and Diniz is getting into the swing of running a bakery full-time now -- she says many of the friends she made cakes for are now her customers.

Circus Bakery is located at 12 PT Barnum Square in downtown Bethel.
