Tobacco, E-Cig Retailers Tested For Compliance In Bethel: Police

The checks were done following complaints of underage individuals buying tobacco and electronic cigarettes, according to police.

BETHEL, CT — Police conducted tobacco and electronic cigarette sales compliance checks at local retailers on Wednesday.

Police said they had received several complaints of underage individuals buying these products at businesses in Bethel. The legal age to purchase them is 21.

Retailers are required by state law to inspect the photo ID of anyone who appears to be under age 30 who tries to buy tobacco and electronic cigarette products.

On Wednesday, police teamed up with the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services’ Tobacco Prevention and Enforcement Program to conduct the checks.

They visited 17 retailers in town, and all were found to be in compliance, according to police.
