BETHEL, CT — Wells Fargo will be closing another of its branches in Connecticut, this time in Bethel.

A spokeswoman for the San Francisco-based bank confirmed it will be shuttering its 159 Greenwood Avenue location at 11 a.m. on May 15.

"Until then, customers can use this branch and bank with us as they always have. After that, they can visit us at our Danbury Commerce Park branch at 1 Eagle Road in Danbury, approximately 3 miles away," spokeswoman Jacqueline Hlavenka-Sansone said in an email.

The Bethel bank employed three workers, and Wells Fargo said its "leadership team is reviewing staffing needs, and they will make every attempt to place employees in positions in other branches."

The wind-down of Wells Fargo brick-and-mortar operations in Bethel continues a Connecticut trend begun last year by the countinghouse, when it closed branches in Monroe, Darien, Danbury and Waterbury.

Hlavenka-Sansone said the decision of the banking leviathan to close more windows in Connecticut was not one it took lightly.

"Branches continue to play an important role in the way we serve our customers in combination with our online and mobile channels and ATMs. Over the last several years, we have rightsized our branch network, and we may continue to combine two older existing branches into one better situated location. Doing so does not take away the importance of our customers and the communities we serve," Hlavenka-Sansone said.

Wells Fargo offers ATMs and banking branches across 36 states and Washington, D.C., according to its website, with over 50 branches in Connecticut.
