What Road in Bethel Needs a Speed Bump?
We asked Patch readers on Facebook what streets they thought needed a speed bump. Find out what your neighbors told us.

BETHEL, CT - Over 9,000 fatalities occurred nationally during 2014 due to speeding according to the latest statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The data also shows a correlation between a driver’s age and the likelihood of a speed-related accident. As the age of a driver increases, their risk of being in an accident decreases. Men are also more likely to be at the wheel during a speeding accident, according to the study.
While the number of speed-related fatalities have continually decreased since 2005, speeding still remains an issue in many of our Patch communities, including Bethel. Readers suggested everything from increased police presence to more stop signs to building less housing to keep traffic at bay.

If you’re frustrated with speeders in a certain part of Bethel, you are in good company. We reached out to readers on Facebook, asking which local road they thought needed a speed bump. Here’s what your neighbors told us:
- "I would LOVE one on Old Hawleyville."
- "Nashville probably. It does seem to have some speed racers. Otherwise, none."
- "Elgin Ave."
- "None. People need to obey the posted speed limits. It's not ok to drive 35 - 40 mph in a 25 mph highly residential area. If you feel your road needs speed enforcement attend a police commission meeting or notify the BPD supervisor on duty and request it."
- "Definitely Old Hawleyville. And I would like to know where our "slow hidden drive" sign went that used to be by Domain Dr. It's a nightmare to pull out of Domain Dr."
- "The potholes serve the same purpose. Keep not fixing those instead."
- "Definitely Judd Ave. People think they are on the highway. There was a meeting, and I attended it, but they said it's not necessary. Especially with school kids walking to and from school. Not to mention I take my life in my hands trying to get my mail."
- "Instead of using the asphalt for a speed bump, maybe they could use the material to fix Beach Street?"
