The Stand (BBQ Restaurant) Never Failed Food Inspection: UPDATE

The East Shore Health District regularly inspects hundred of restaurants in Branford, East Haven and North Branford.

BRANFORD, CT - Three Branford food establishments that did not pass food inspections according to the April 4th listings on the East Shore Health District’s website have had their marks revised to passing.

Two that failed the April 4th test that have now passed are Lo Monaco’s and Subway at 66 North Main Street.

The Stand Farm still has a failing mark listed on the website - but it is closed for the season.

The East Shore Health District says this:

"Any assertion that the Stand (BBQ Restaurant) or the Stand (Farm Stand) are in violation of the Connecticut Food Code is false. The Department regrettably did not follow up on matters relating to its prior review, which had the unintended result of the Stand (Farm Stand) being accused of a continuing violation that was not correct.

"The Stand (BBQ Restaurant) and The Stand "Farm Stand" are inspected and licensed separately. The Stand (BBQ Restaurant) continues to have a satisfactory score in compliance with the State of Connecticut Food Code. The "Farm Stand" is closed for the season and will be inspected prior to its re-opening."

Chipotle’s still has a failing grade listed.

A failing grade doesn’t mean that a restaurant has to close; restaurants are generally given time to fix whatever issue caused them to earn a “failing” mark and often do, according to inspectors at the district.

The health district inspects and licenses hundreds of food establishments in East Haven, Branford and North Branford, most of which are inspected multiple times per year.

The main purpose of the inspection program is to ensure food safety and to prevent the occurrence of food borne illness in communities.
On its website the district says this about the inspection program:
“Special attention is given to safe food practices, prevention of food contamination and food temperature control. We also perform facility plan reviews for new or renovated food establishments to ensure that the physical plant and its equipment are conducive to safe food preparation and service.
“Reports of food borne illness and complaints regarding sanitation of food establishments are handled and investigated by the health district.”

The food inspections listed on the website are as of April 4th.
