Branford Attorney Order to Pay Defaulted Student Loans

Branford attorney said the government was to blame for his lack of payments.

Branford attorney Gregory Cohan was ordered by a judge earlier this month to pay the loans he refused to pay because “the government made it impossible for him to make the payments,” according to the Hartford Courant.

Cohan hadn’t paid his law school loans since 2001 because he didn’t agree with the government’s monthly payment amount, the Courant reported. The government sued Cohan for the balance of more than $236,000 in 2011, with interest at 8.25 percent a year.
