Branford Clean Energy Committee Honored At People’s Action for Clean Energy Conference

BRANFORD, CT — The Branford Clean Energy Committee was honored at the People’s Action for Clean Energy conference in Hartford last week.

McCarthy and Dan Rabin received Community Leader Awards and former Branford First Selectman James B. Cosgrove was featured in a panel discussion on the power of local climate action, detailing the elements that made Branford’s efforts successful.

People’s Action for Clean Energy, PACE, promotes development of clean energy and community outreach for energy efficiency.

Shirley McCarthy has served as chairperson of the Branford Clean Energy Committee for almost a decade. Dan Rabin has led residential outreach for Branford residents, has extended support to neighboring towns and most recently been selected by the CEC to succeed McCarthy as chairperson.

PACE has supported Branford in multiple clean energy projects over the past seven years, it's noted by the town in a news release.

"These awards recognize the extraordinary contributions of local community members," PACE Vice President Bernard Pelletier said in describing the Community Leader Awards. "Branford has taken clean energy action at the municipal level as well as working with residents and businesses to improve energy efficiency and lower cost."

The November conference marked the launch of the PACE Clean Energy Action Center, a free online tool to help towns and cities take climate action.
