Branford Man Used Dead Grandma's Identity For Unemployment Fraud: DCJ

Jason Turoczi, 40, used the identity of his dead grandmother and parents to make the unemployment claims, according to the DCJ.

BRANFORD, CT — A Superior Court judge ordered a Branford man to be re-arrested after he refused to attend a hearing regarding his unemployment fraud case, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice.

Jason Turoczi, 40, is currently incarcerated. He was charged Jan. 13 with five counts of felony unemployment compensation fraud and other criminal charges after he collected more than $72,000 in unemployment benefits under his own identity and the identity of his deceased grandmother, mother, father and two other living individuals, according to the DCJ. Turoczi made the claims between March and November 2020 when unemployment benefits were enhanced due to the pandemic.

Turoczi is also facing charges in 15 other pending cases.

He refused to attend a hearing in New Britain Wednesday and was ordered re-arrested, according to the DCJ.
