Donut Crazy Owner Explains Why Branford Store Suddenly Closed

The owner of the Donut Crazy shops explains to Patch the reason why the Branford store closed suddenly after only a few weeks in business.

BRANFORD, CT — The owner of Donut Crazy said there was a simple reason why the Branford store wasn’t working as well as the other outlets he owns in the state and that’s the reason why it closed: it was too small.

Jason Wojnarowksi, who founded and is the owner of the other Donut Crazy locations in Shelton, Stratford, New Haven, Westport - and soon, West Hartford, explained the reasons Thursday why the Branford location on Hamburger Hill closed suddenly a little more than a week ago after only a few months in business.

“It really didn’t figure in with the outline of the rest of our locations,” Wojnarowski said. “The rest of our locations have seating, people can come in dine-in and enjoy the full experience.”

“The Branford location,” the owner said, “was just too small for that - it was set-up for take-out only. It just didn’t work.”

Unlike his other locations, Wojnarowski licensed the Branford location to two people who ran the operation - Matt Thurston and Arnie Jandreau.

“It was their decision to close the place down,” Wojnarowski said.

Wojnarowski wasn’t down about what happened to the Branford location.

“Frankly, it’s growing pains,” he said, adding that he wouldn’t make the mistake of licensing an operation or opening up a smaller location without sufficient seating again.

Wojnarowski insisted the overall Donut Crazy operation is “going very well” and that the other locations are very busy.

Asked whether he could see another franchise opening in Branford in the future, Wojnarowski said he could.

But, he added, “It would definitely be in a bigger location.”
