Men Accused in 2006 Branford Arson-Murder Request Access to Witness Information
The prosecution is arguing against the request over concern that granting access to that information could put witnesses in danger.

Defense attorneys representing defendants Steven Matone and John Vailette, both accused of setting fire to 39-year-old Kathy Hardy’s house, of Branford, on March 7, 2006, killing her, are trying to gain access to witness statements to prepare for the upcoming September trial, according to the New Haven Register.
The prosecutor is arguing that granting the defendants access to those records could put the witnesses in danger, the Register reports.
U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny didn’t make a decision on Friday, and instead will hold a telephone conference on July 22 to discuss the motion further, the Register reports. Chatigny hopes to balance both parties’ interests in whatever decision he reaches regarding this matter.
