New Hospital May Be Coming To Branford, Company Says
The estimated capital expenditure in connection with the establishment of this facility is approximately $69,537,000.
BRANFORD, CT — If all goes to plan, an inpatient rehabilitation hospital may open in Branford.
Birmingham, AL-based Encompass Health is submitting a Certificate of Need Application to the state Office of Health Strategy, the company confirmed in a call with Patch.
The newly established Encompass Health Rehabilitation Hospital of Branford, LLC plans to bring a rehab hospital to 596, 612 and 616 East Main St.

According to a public notice published by the town, "the estimated capital expenditure in connection with the establishment of this facility is approximately $69,537,000."
Encompass Health was founded in 1984 as HealthSouth and completed a rebranding to Encompass Health in 2019. Its Birmingham home office was opened in 2018. According to its website, it is the "nation's largest system of rehabilitation hospitals" across the country and in Puerto Rico. Currently, Encompass has 165 hospitals in 38 states and Puerto Rico.

The company says it has "a higher percentage of patients discharged to the community compared to skilled nursing facilities."
Encompass Health also announced it's going to open a rehab hospital in Danbury.
