Obituary: Catherine R. Cast, 90, of Branford

A St. Therese Catholic Church communicant​ and choir member, she loved watching her children, grandchildren in their activities.

Surrounded by her loved ones at CT Hospice, Catherine R. Cast, of Branford, CT sadly passed away on November 17, 2023, after a long illness. Cathy was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Edward and Catherine (Lee) Haig on New Year’s Eve, 1933. She graduated from Bishop McDonnell Memorial High School in 1952. Harry and Cathy were married on June 11, 1955, beginning their life together, raising their family in New City, NY before moving to Branford, CT in 1978.

Catherine (Cathy) was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an active communicant of St. Therese Catholic Church, and a member of the choir for many years. Cathy loved watching her children and grandchildren in all their activities, and especially watching the UConn women’s basketball team.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Harry J. Cast. She is also survived by her children Donald (Lori) Cast, Ginny (Barb) Cast, Laurie Cast, Ellen (John) Kemble, Nancy (Bryan) Steinke, James (Nina)Cast, and Peter (Elissa) Cast, and her grandchildren Linda (Vann) Cast, Joshua (Rachel) Cast, Justin Cast, Tyler Cast, Garrison (Catherine) Carafa, Kaitlin (Ben) Roberts, Dillon Kemble, Katrice (Michael) Rebeschi, Donovan Steinke, Spencer Steinke, Ryan Cast, Jessica (Nicholas) Bessette, Zac (Elizabeth) Cast, and Noah Cast, and her great-grandchildren David Garrison, Crosby Garrison, Nathan Cast, Gabriella Cast, Justin Cast, Ariya Cast, Jackson Carafa, Maeve Carafa, Arthur Carafa, Gwyneth Carafa, Graham Roberts, and Julian Bessette.

A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at 10 a.m., St. Therese Church in Branford, CT followed by a burial at St. Agnes Cemetery.
