Obituary: Ellen Marie Hess, 88, of Branford

Ellen Marie Hess of Branford died March 6, 2024 at the Hospital of St. Raphael Campus, YNHH.

She was born in Shelton on June 23, 1935, a daughter of the late John Alfred and Catherine Bartlett Hess. Ellen worked in customer service for Beckson Industrial Products for many years before retiring. Ellen found joy in spending time with family and friends, and in traveling within North America and Europe. She also had a tender affection for animals, especially family pets.

Ellen was a communicant of St. Mary Church in Branford and was a member of the St. Mary Women’s Group, the St. Mary Knitters, and she was a past president of both the Branford Chorale and the Totokets.

She was predeceased by her brothers, John Alfred Hess, Jr. and Charles Hess, and is survived by her nieces and nephews, Stephen Hess, Kathleen Hess Hoyt, David Hess, Elizabeth Bruenn and John A. Hess, III.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Bosco Parish in St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford on Friday, March 15th at 11:00 AM. Visiting hour prior to Mass will be held at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford from 9:30 – 10:30 AM.

The family has requested that remembrances be made in the form of contributions to St. John Bosco Women’s Group, c/o the church.
