Obituary: Gail Battles, 79, of Branford

A freelance writer and editor, she was active in Branford schools, including as PTA president, and was St. Therese Church parish secretary.

Gail Battles of Branford passed away on Friday December 13, 2023 at CT Hospice in Branford. Wife of the late Howard Battles, she was the mother of two sons, Paul Battles of Branford and Andrew Battles of Trumansburg, N.Y. and is also survived by 4 grandchildren. Gail was also step-mother of Tony Battles and Dana Battles of Minnesota, and Anna Eastman of Texas. Daughter of Samuel and Quinta Iacampo Griffin, Gail was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 27, 1944, and grew up in Delaware with her sister Mary Griffin and her brother Sam Griffin.

After working in publishing for several years, she and her husband Howard both turned to freelance writing and editing which allowed them to work from home and spend more time with their children. Gail continued this work right up until her passing.

In addition to her work in publishing, Gail was the longtime parish secretary for St. Therese Church in Branford and was an active member of the Branford community, dedicating much of her free time to working as PTA president as well as other roles in the Branford education system.

Friends may call Friday, December 29, 2023 at the W.S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main St. Branford from 4-7 P.M. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday December 30 at 10:00 at St. Therese Church of St. John Bosco Parish in Branford. Burial will be private.
