Obituary: Jane Bernardo, 95, of Branford

Artistic, she created crocheted and knitted and painted pottery, sang in her church choir, and she had a long career in many industries.

Jane Bernardo passed away quietly on May 7, 2024 at 95 years of age. She was born Jane Louise Thompson on July 23, 1928, and was a long-time resident of Branford. She is predeceased by her husband Michael Bernardo, great-grandsons Declan and Tristan Colianna, son-in-law Phil Armitage, as well as her sisters, Ann Carpenter and Florence Thompson and her brother Charles Thompson.

She is survived by her sons, Michael (Patricia), Bruce, daughters Barbara (Gary) Colianna, and Deborah Armitage, six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her brother Ernest (Debbie) Thompson.

Artistic in so many ways, she created beautiful crocheted and knitted blankets for family and friends. In her early life, she sang with the choir of the Baptist Church, and as she was raising her family, she could be found singing as she tackled all the details of everyday life. In later years, she let her creativity express itself in some beautiful paintings and painted pottery.

She had a long working career which covered multiple industries including hospitality, food, printing and quality control. Known for her sharp wit and direct approach, she knew how to get things done.
