Obituary: Jane Grete (Skaarer) Jaegersen, 77, of Branford

Jane Grete (Skaarer) Jaegersen was born in Lillestrøm, Norway to Arthur and Liv (Lyster) Skaarer, both originally from Kristiansund, Norway.

As a child, she moved to Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, New York, which in the years after the Second World War boasted a vibrant Scandinavian community. After graduating from Fort Hamilton High School, she went to work for the investment firm of Kidder, Peabody & Co. While living in Brooklyn she met and married Roald Jaegersen, originally from Leka, Norway.

They settled in Branford in 1970.

Jane eventually returned to full-time work as an administrative assistant for Marlin Firearms, and then as a typesetter for textbook and educational publisher Dushkin Publishing Group.

In retirement she was an avid traveler, and enjoyed spending time with her family and their pets.
She was predeceased by her parents and husband. She is survived by her son Geir Jaegersen, daughter-in-law Ellen (Bredehoft) Jaegersen, and granddaughters Silje Jaegersen and Hilda Jaegersen.

Interment will take place at Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, New York, in the spring.
