Obituary: Joseph R. Ciaffone, 85, of Branford

A career electrician and CT National Guard member, he was an avid golfer, and enjoyed a visit to Twin Pines Diner with family and friends.

Joseph R. Ciaffone, beloved husband of Lillian Guliano Ciaffone of Branford, passed away peacefully Sunday November 12, 2023.

Joe was born in New Haven in 1938, and was the proud son of Joseph and Julia Rubano Ciaffone. He was a graduate of the Boardman Trade School in New Haven. After completing his education, had an extensive career as a licensed Electrician which included work on Millstone 3 nuclear plant. Joe was an esteemed member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 90. He served in the Connecticut National Guard and later in life became an avid golfer.

Joe, also known as “Pop” to his family, loved spending quality time sharing meals and a good laugh with his loved ones. Any opportunity to visit with friends and family was usually met with a request to head to the Twin Pines diner in East Haven. He was a loving and supportive grandfather to all his grandchildren throughout their lives. As a strong advocate for education, Joe always made a point to promote further learning opportunities with his family. His encouragement, smile, and good appetite will be remembered by all who loved him.

He was predeceased by his daughter Marcelle Terese Ciaffone, his sister Philomena Turcotte and his brother Frank Ciaffone. Joe is survived by his wife Lillian, two daughters Janet (Peter) Smith of Middletown Ct, Julie (Gregory) Ricci of Gilbert AZ, five grandchildren Gregory (Addie) Ricci Jr, Patrick Smith, Stephanie (Joshua) Hines, Emily (Timothy) Wolfangel, Nicholas Ricci, and three great- grandchildren.

Visiting hours will take place Thursday morning from 8:30-9:30 am at the Clancy funeral home in Branford. The funeral procession will leave the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford Thursday morning at 9:30 am for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. John Bosco Parish at St. Mary Church, 731 Main Street, Branford at 10:00 am. Burial will follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
