Obituary: Kathleen McGovern, 94, of Branford

Kathleen McGovern, 94 of Branford, passed away peacefully at Hospice on November 24th, 2023 with her family by her side, and with her rosary beads in her hands.

Kathleen was born on September 19, 1929, in New Haven, to the late Bernard and Ella Heeran. She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph McGovern Sr., who passed 20 years ago on the same date of her passing. She was also predeceased by her brother, Joseph Heeran Sr., and sister Mary Sullivan.

She was the mother of Joseph McGovern Jr. (Carol), MaryEllen Baldino, and Maureen Morton (Craig). She was the grandmother of Elizabeth and Abigail Baldino, Kerrie Nugent, Brendan, Jocelin, and Simone McGovern, and Samantha, Vincent, and Kathleen Morton. She was predeceased by her daughter, Nancy Nugent. She was survived by several nieces and nephews.

She was devoted to the Blessed Mother and prayed the rosary daily (two rosaries on her children and grandchildren’s birthdays). She was the last survivor of her generation, outliving family and friends, especially missing her “Club”: Mary Lou, Theresa, and Lorraine.

Friends are invited to visit with Kathleen’s family on December 2nd from 8:30-9:30 at the W. S. Clancy Memorial Funeral Home, 244 North Main Street, Branford, CT prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 at St. Mary Church of St. John Bosco Parish, Branford, CT. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery, North Haven, CT.
