Start The New Year On The Right Foot: Join Land Trust New Year’s Hike

BRANFORD, CT —How about a hike into 2024?

Join the Branford Land Trust and explore the DeLeo, Pieper, and Queach properties on New Year's Day at 1 p.m.

Two hikes will be offered: a longer hike of approximately 3.5 miles, which takes around 2.5 hours on relatively flat terrain, and a shorter hike, approximately 2 miles, about 90 minutes, on relatively flat terrain.

Local naturalists from the BLT and the town Commission on Parks and Open Space will offer their unique perspectives on this expansive nature preserve.

Walkers may gather afterward at Thimble Island Brewery, 6 Business Park Drive, for food, drinks, and conversation.

Please meet at 156 Laurel Hill Road, .9 miles off of Brushy Plains Road, at the DeLeo parking area — look for the kiosk. There is limited parking, so please carpool. No dogs for this event, please.

Please wear appropriate dress and comfortable, supportive walking shoes. Bring water. Walking sticks encouraged for the rocky and leafy terrain. The event is good for kids as young as six or seven. Parents of younger children should use their discretion and be prepared to carry them for parts of the route.

For those who want to walk less than 2 miles, join the shorter hike and just turn around at the ½ mile mark to retrace your steps back to the parking area.
