BRANFORD, CT — The Francis Walsh Intermediate School Field Hockey team wrapped up an outstanding undefeated season, finishing 11–0.

The team was led by co-captains Sienna Torello and Piper Meyran, whose leadership helped guide the Lady Hornets to a dominant year on both turf and grass.

Coaches Kristin Liguori and Lisa Salzano expressed immense pride in the group’s growth and adaptability, particularly as the players learned to compete on the new WIS turf while continuing to perform strongly on grass fields. Over the course of the season, the Hornets scored 38 goals and conceded goals in only three games, with goalie Nellie Henry shutting out all other opponents.

Head Coach Kristin Liguori shared that working with the students both in and out of the classroom strengthened her connection to the team.

"We have such a tremendous amount of athleticism and determination, and we are fierce," Ligouri said. "These girls will play in any weather, rise to any situation, and welcome challenges without hesitation."

The WIS program feeds directly into the Branford High School field hockey program, where many of these athletes will continue. The high school team is headed to the Class M State Championship this weekend, and Coach Liguori is proud of the foundation being built at the middle school level.

"We are happy to build the foundation that leads to a strong program and even more excited to see where they go," Liguori added.
