Well Known Flutist Takes the Stage At Branford Jazz Series Thurs.
A former deputy sheriff turned musician will be the featured entertainer at the jazz series on the Branford Green this Thursday night.

BRANFORD, CT - For more than 10 years, Althea Rene’ was employed as a Wayne County Deputy Sheriff in Detroit, Michigan. However, considering she began her musical journey at the tender age of four, studied classical music at Howard University in Washington, D.C. and gained musical inspiration from the likes of Yusef Lateef, Ian Anderson and her father, one of Motown’s original Funk Brothers, Dezie McCullers, it was only fitting that she “warranted” her own creative style as a world renown dynamic, soulful, and improvisational flutist.
This full-time performing/recording artist, who some regard as a “master of her craft” will “subpoena” all Branford Jazz Series followers to the Town Green for her on-stage performance on Thursday, August 2nd, 2018 at 6:30 p.m.
Born on December 25th in Detroit, Michigan, Altheareleased her independently produced debut album, “Flute Talk” in 2000. More albums followed as her career took off, including 2003’s “Chocolate Rush”, 2006’s “In the Moment” and 2008’s “No Restrictions.”

In 2013, Althea released her fifth project “In The Flow”, collaborating with Grammy award winning producer Michael Broening, (producer for legendary icons George Benson and Paul McCartney), and co-wrote the title track. That single became her biggest hit and reached number one ranking on both the Billboard Chart and The Smooth Jazz Chart. Althea made history by becoming the first flute player in the history of the Billboard Chart to reach the number one spot. Two years later she delivered the concert album “Live in Detroit”, showcasing a well-received performance at the Detroit Library.
In April of 2015, she recorded her first live project. She and her rhythm section annihilated the stage of the beautiful Detroit Public Library with a free concert. Music fans from all over Michigan enjoyed a scorching hot performance. A compilation of some of her greatest hits, “Live in Detroit” is arguably her strongest work to date.
