What’s Being Built on 70,000 Square Feet on No. Main in Branford

An application for two buildings totaling 70,000 square feet of space is being reviewed; the location is next to Tommy Sullivan's

BRANFORD, CT - The biggest mystery in the town of Branford is what’s being built on a huge parcel of land near Tommy Sullivan’s cafe in town - and - what retail store may eventually be opening there.

The Planning and Zoning Commission has received an application for developing two parcels on 250 North Main. One of the two parcels is more than 55,000 square feet - or larger than the current Stop & Shop store located off of Leetes Island Road off nearby Exit 56.

The application is from J & J Property, LLC and is asking for a special exception for “retail use building and associated site development” of the site.

At the April 19th Planning and Zoning Commission meeting, Town Planner Harry Smith stated the applicant requested that for more time before the hearing went forward on the application - which was granted.

So far the applicant has not said what is planned for the site.

An internet search, however, shows the site is being marketed as a “supermarket.”

It also says it will be available for purchase in August of this year - and ready for opening in 2019.
